A LITTLE EXTRA LANGUAGE HELP
Learning another language can be a breeze for some of us… and an overwhelming obstacle for others. It has been this way for as long as I can remember.
I knew I didn’t like it when I was about kindergarten aged, and one day my mother tried to teach me a couple of little French phrases. It just didn’t seem worthwhile. I could speak with her in English, after all!
ALL IN ALL YOU’RE JUST A …
Feeling like a brick wall – you know, like that saying, it would be easier to speak to a brick wall – I simply couldn’t engage with these weird sounds my mother was making and tuned right out. Sorry, Mom! At least karma came around for me when I got to 6th grade and was forced to take any language I wanted as long as it was French!
Luckily by this time, despite my fears and worries about French, I did well practically from the first day. I could see how many of my classmates did not, however. Over the years I’ve spent many hours trying to figure out why. More importantly, I wondered if there was anything I could do about it.
A LITTLE EXTRA PERSONAL REINFORCEMENT
Besides reading Fearless Foreign Language (the book), paying good attention in class, asking your teacher questions, and diligently getting your homework done, there are ways to help make Spanish, French or German, or whichever language you’re studying, easier.
Technology plays a huge role in helping learners of any subject these days. Whether or not you read Fearless Foreign Language, please feel free to reach out to the kind people on the list below. Each is on Instagram, and each creates wonderful content full of likable posts that can be a huge help.
